Curriculum for Excellence

As Afterbeat is based in Scotland our lessons complement and support the experiences and outcomes in the Curriculum for Excellence and the Scottish Roman Catholic syllabus. Afterbeat wants to help young people gain the knowledge, skills and attributes needed for life in the 21st century. We believe our lessons will help young people to be confident individuals, responsible and effective contributors to society so they can reflect critically and flourish in today’s world. In our lessons we will touch on three areas:

Health & Wellbeing
PSE: Personal Social Education Key stage 3 & 4

  • Afterbeat enables young people to develop their self-awareness, self-worth and respect for others
  • Helps young people  to meet challenges, manage change and build relationships
  • Enables young people  to experience personal achievement and build resilience and confidence
  • Enables young people  to understand and develop physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing and social skills
  • Helps young people to understand how decisions they make about behaviour and relationships affects physical and mental wellbeing
  • Helps young people to understand that adults in the school community have a responsibility to look after themselves, listen to concerns and involve others where necessary
  • Enables young people  to  learn about where to find help and resources to inform choices
  • Enables young people  to reflect on strengths and skills 
  • Helps young people  to acknowledge diversity and understand that it is everyone’s responsibility to challenge discrimination

  • Enables young people to make a positive difference to the world

  • Afterbeat enables young people  to experience the inspiration and power of the arts

  • Enables young people develop skills and techniques that are relevant to specific art forms and across the four capacities
  • Helps young people to deepen their understanding of culture in the wider world
  • Enables young people to enhance and enrich themselves through partnerships with professional arts companies, creative adults and local cultural organizations

Roman Catholic Religious Education Scotland

Afterbeat is  aware that the syllabus for Catholic religious education in Scotland, now governs the teaching of religious education in Scotland’s Catholic schools. Afterbeat’s lessons complement those of every Catholic school. We believe we will help Catholic schools with the following teaching outcomes:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of Catholic faith
  • Nurture respect for other Christian traditions
  • Experience opportunities for spiritual growth
  • Obtain the skills of reflection, discernment and moral decision-making
  • Commit to Christian faith, values and actions in a positive response to God’s personal invitation

We are aware of HGIOS 4 and support self-evaluation, and therefore our lessons are designed to complement the quality indicators. Some of the indicators we will touch are:
